Tests have confirmed that Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett tore his Achilles at camp on Friday, an injury that will keep him out for the 2018 season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

It's more terrible news for the defensive back, who's played in just five games over the last two seasons due to multiple ACL injuries.

Verrett suffered the injury during a conditioning test in camp, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The news is also another blow for the hard-luck Chargers. Tight end Hunter Henry suffered a torn ACL during OTAs in May, and the team had 13 players end their seasons on injured reserve in 2017.

During his last full season (2015), the former first-round pick accumulated 42 tackles and three interceptions.

Verrett's injury will affect Los Angeles' secondary, but the team does have one of the NFL's top cornerback groups. Casey Hayward, Trevor Williams, and Desmond King were all solid in coverage in 2017, helping their team rank third in pass defense.
