Dolphins' Gase trying to figure out role for pricey FA signing Wilson

Four months after giving him a three-year, $24-million contract in free agency, the Miami Dolphins sound unsure of how receiver Albert Wilson fits into their offense.

"We've been working on developing the right plan for Albert because he has a lot of skill sets other receivers don't have," Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said Monday, according to Omar Kelly of the Miami Sun-Sentinel.

Wilson signed with the Dolphins after spending four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he did most of his damage out of the slot. Gase, though, made it clear that's not where he plans to line up the 26-year-old, who had a 42-catch, 554-yard campaign in 2017.

"He's not a slot," the third-year coach said. "Nobody understands. He's not an inside guy. You got to have a knack for (playing inside)."

Veteran wideout Danny Amendola has seemingly passed Wilson in the pecking order, and rookie tight end Mike Gesicki also figures to get snaps in the slot.

It seems, then, that Wilson could be moving to the perimeter, where DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills have already established themselves as starters.
