NFL vice president of football operations Troy Vincent released a statement Wednesday stating that no changes will be made to the new helmet rule, which aims to prevent players from initiating contact with their helmet.

Vincent did clarify, though, that the "(NFL competition) committee also determined that inadvertent or incidental contact with the helmet and/or facemask is not a foul."

The new rule, which was approved by clubs in the spring, has been heavily enforced throughout the first two weeks of preseason action, leaving some players and coaches confused.

However, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick took a contrarian view, calling the rule "fairly clear-cut."
