Report: Rams' Donald could secure $80M guaranteed in extension
Star defensive tackle Aaron Donald is expected to receive up to $80 million guaranteed from the Los Angeles Rams in a potential contract extension, a source with knowledge of the situation told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
It's unclear if a signing is imminent. Donald has been holding out from all offseason activities - including training camp and preseason games - while searching for a new contract. He did the same thing last year before reporting to the Rams on the eve of the regular season without inking an extension.
The 27-year-old is reportedly expected to receive around $22 million per year from the Rams if a new deal comes to fruition, and become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
"We're working to come to a solution that gets Aaron Donald here as soon as possible and keeps Aaron Donald here for a long time," Rams general manager Les Snead said.
Donald is the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year and had 11 sacks in 14 outings last season. He's been named a first-team All Pro in three of his four NFL campaigns.
