Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone announced Monday that wide receiver Marqise Lee will have season-ending knee surgery and be placed on injured reserve.

Lee was carted off the field in Saturday's game against the Atlanta Falcons after suffering a gruesome knee injury while being tackled. Star cornerback Jalen Ramsey blamed the injury on the NFL's new helmet rule.

The wideout signed a four-year contract as a free agent in March with a maximum value of $38 million and $18 million guaranteed.

Lee was expected to play a significant role in the Jaguars' offense after catching 56 passes for 702 yards and three touchdowns last season. The team will turn to youngsters Keelan Cole, Dede Westbrook, and free-agent addition Donte Moncrief to step up in his absence.

When asked about the possibility of signing wide receiver Dez Bryant, Marrone claimed the team was "comfortable" with their current roster, but would not close the door on adding a free agent before the regular season, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
