It appears Carson Wentz will not be cleared in time for Week 1, as the Philadelphia Eagles plan to start Nick Foles at quarterback for the 2018 season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Returning from a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee, Wentz has reportedly impressed during his rehabilitation process, but the Eagles are making a safer, long-term decision, Rapoport added.

Foles has looked shaky this preseason but led Philadelphia to its first-ever Super Bowl in February.

Wentz was given the green light to begin participating in 11-on-11 drills two weeks ago but has yet to be cleared for contact.

The Eagles will reportedly also be missing No. 1 wide receiver Alshon Jeffery for the season opener Sept. 6, as he rehabs a shoulder injury.
