Report: 49ers' McKinnon out for season with torn ACL
San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon suffered a torn ACL during a team workout Saturday, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The 49ers had feared a significant injury after their starting ball-carrier went down in a non-contact drill.
McKinnon has been out of team drills since straining his right calf Aug. 9. San Francisco opted to hold him out of the preseason to avoid worsening the injury.
The 27-year-old signed with the 49ers in March after spending the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. The former third-round pick was poised to lead San Francisco's rushing attack in 2018, so Alfred Morris and Matt Breida will form a committee in his place.
McKinnon amassed 991 yards from scrimmage last season with Minnesota, scoring five touchdowns.
