Bills name Nathan Peterman starting QB

Despite signing free agent AJ McCarron this offseason and taking Josh Allen with the No. 7 pick in April's draft, the Buffalo Bills will open the 2018 season with returnee Nathan Peterman as their starter under center.

The Bills announced on Monday that Peterman has been named the starting quarterback.

Peterman was selected with the 171st overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. He started two games as a rookie with two other appearances. He debuted in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints in relief of Tyrod Taylor, completing 7 of 10 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown.

He received his first start the following week against the Los Angeles Chargers. The infamous appearance saw him complete just six passes through the air and throw five interceptions before being pulled.

McCarron was signed to a two-year, $8.1-million contract this offseason, according to Over The Cap, but was traded to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a fifth-round pick on Saturday.

The Bills seem as though they're trying to be patient with Allen, as they opt to have him serve as the backup during a difficult 2018 schedule. Buffalo opens the season on the road against the Baltimore Ravens, return home to face the Chargers, then visit the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers in Weeks 3 and 4, respectively.

Their bye isn't until Week 11. They'll conclude the regular season with four of six games at home.
