Bills' McCoy ruled eligible to play Week 1 as police investigation continues

The NFL ruled that Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy is eligible to play in Week 1 despite an ongoing police investigation, according to Mark Maske of The Washington Post. McCoy won't be placed on the commissioner's exempt list at this point.

"There's been no change to his status," league spokesman Brian McCarthy told Maske on Monday.

A home invasion occurred in July at a Georgia property owned by McCoy where his former girlfriend, Delicia Cordon, was living. Cordon and her attorney reportedly filed a personal injury lawsuit against the star running back.

The lawsuit states that McCoy "intentionally permitted a hazardous condition to exist on the premises." It also claims the six-time Pro Bowler and his former college teammate Tamarcus Porter "are liable for the assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress suffered" by Cordon after McCoy changed the home's security codes.

No criminal charges have been filed yet.

The Bills visit the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon to open their 2018 season.
