Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph announced Royce Freeman as the team's starting running back on Monday, via Andrew Mason of DenverBroncos.com.

Freeman was competing against Devontae Booker for the role.

The 22-year-old finished a prolific collegiate career at Oregon in 2017, where he became the Pac-12 career rushing touchdowns leader. Freeman was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Joseph told reporters that Freeman will likely be featured on first and second downs, with Booker serving as the third-down back.
