Luck: 'I was a sad, miserable human' without football
At the peak of his shoulder woes, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck admits he grew uncertain he'd be able to play football again.
"I was scared, scared in my core, in my insides. There was a time I was very scared about football, and about my place in football," Luck told Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star.
Luck missed all of the 2017 season while rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder, and the recovery seemed to go at a snail's pace.
The former No. 1 overall pick encountered several setbacks during his rehab, and the Colts - who initially thought he'd be ready for Week 1 last year - eventually ruled him out for the entire campaign.
"I was a sad, miserable human," Luck said. "I was not nice to myself, nor was I nice to anyone else. I was a miserable SOB to be around. I was nervous. I was scared."

Luck's road to recovery continued into training camp this preseason, where he was on a strict throwing schedule. The 28-year-old will finally make his regular-season return Sunday as the Colts take on the Cincinnati Bengals.
