Rams executive states team offered 'pretty aggressive' package for Mack
Imagine a defense with Aaron Donald, Ndamukong Suh, Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, and Khalil Mack? For Los Angeles Rams COO Kevin Demoff, it almost became his reality.
Despite being near the salary cap limit, the Rams were among the NFL's most aggressive teams in pursuit of Mack, according to Demoff.
"We offered a pretty aggressive package and they came back and said, 'We just think you're going to pick too low,'" the Rams' COO said, via Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.
Mack was traded by the Oakland Raiders to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a package centered around two first-round picks on Saturday. The 2016 Defensive Player of the Year promptly signed a six-year extension worth $141 million, ensuring that the Bears have their marquee talent locked up for the foreseeable future.
It would be nearly impossible for the Rams to acquire Mack, given their cap situation, but one can only dream how they would've looked if they had pulled off the heist of the century.
