Chad Johnson: I would've tied NFL protests to game, involved fans

Former NFL wide receiver Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson supports players kneeling during the national anthem, but says he would've protested differently.

On the latest episode of Complex's "Open Late With Peter Rosenberg," Johnson reiterated comments he made a year ago about Colin Kaepernick's protest being "whitewashed" and explained how he would've gotten the message across.

"The kneeling issue is great; the message is what got whitewashed, forgetting why (Kaepernick's) kneeling," Johnson said. "A lot of people always turn the question around and ask me what I would've done. I don't think I would've kneeled, but I would've gotten the exact same message across and intertwined it with my play on the field.

"Did I follow NFL rules in the first place? Think about it. Therefore, I'm going to get the message that he's trying to get across, but I would've tied it in the game of football, which would've probably been in a celebration. I would've gotten the fan(s) involved, I would've had them drape a ... just all types of stuff that was extremely creative."

Johnson also weighed in on Kaepernick's collusion case against the NFL.

"It's gotten too far, it's far beyond repair, you know, especially now that the collusion suit has been filed and everything is going forward," he said. "He won't play again, but I have a very strong feeling that he's going to win."
