Vontae Davis confirmed reports that his playing career is over.

"This isn't how I pictured retiring from the NFL," Davis said in a statement. "But today on the field, reality hit me fast and hard: I shouldn't be out there anymore.

"I meant no disrespect to my teammates and coaches ... While I was on the field, I just didn't feel right, and I told the coaches 'I'm not feeling like myself.'"

Davis left his Buffalo Bills' 31-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers at halftime, and Bills head coach Sean McDermott said afterward, "He told us he was done," according to WGR 550.

Some Bills teammates weren't thrilled with the move. Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said it was "completely disrespectful," per Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic.

Davis, a two-time Pro Bowler, signed a one-year contract with the Bills in February. He spent the previous six seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, but was released in November.
