Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is standing by his kicker one day after Mason Crosby nearly set an unenviable milestone by missing five kicks against the Detroit Lions.

"He's a proven, highly successful kicker. I still believe in him," McCarthy said Monday, according to Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Post-Gazette.

Crosby missed field-goal attempts of 38, 41, 42, and 56 yards, and an extra point in Green Bay's 31-23 loss to their NFC North rivals. He finished on a high note, at least, making a 41-yard attempt with two seconds left on the clock.

McCarthy is confident the 12-year veteran will be able to get back on track.

"He had a tremendous training camp. He was striking the ball as well as I can recall," he said.

Following the poor Week 5 performance, Crosby has made 79.8 percent of 361 field-goal attempts with just 11 missed extra points in his career.
