Houston Texans safety Andre Hal will play in his first game of the season Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter, just over four months after the 26-year-old was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Hal was activated off the reserve/non-football illness list Saturday following a midweek return to practice.

The safety opted not to undergo chemotherapy treatment on the lymphoma found in his armpit and abdomen in order to have a chance of playing this season.

The Texans released a statement from team physician Dr. James Muntz in September revealing that Hal's cancer was in remission. The safety had been on the non-football illness list since June.
