Star cornerback Patrick Peterson met with the Arizona Cardinals' brass after his reported trade request, and ownership assured him the organization has a desire to win, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Peterson reportedly spoke with Cardinals president Michael Bidwill for half an hour on Tuesday. The two discussed ways for the team to improve and for Peterson's leadership role to grow.

"I think we definitely have a clear understanding and I have two years left under my contract, so I'm here," Peterson said of the meeting on Wednesday, via ESPN's Josh Weinfuss.

Peterson had reportedly been "desperate" to get out of Arizona before the Oct. 30 trade deadline amid the Cardinals' 1-6 start to the season. The seven-time Pro Bowler was believed to have set his sights on the New Orleans Saints as a landing spot. However, the Saints acquired cornerback Eli Apple from the New York Giants on Tuesday.

A statement Wednesday from Peterson indicated he's not looking to leave the desert, where he's spent his entire eight-year career:

While his team has been one of the worst in the NFL this year, Peterson is still among the best players in the league at his position. The 28-year-old is under contract through the 2020 season.
