The NFL has opted to lessen Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks' punishment - which stems from federal insider trading charges - from an indefinite ban to an eight-game suspension while giving him credit for time served, a source told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Kendricks recently met with commissioner Roger Goodell in an attempt to have his suspension lifted or reduced. Florio initially reported that the linebacker could rejoin the Seahawks on Nov. 12, but later clarified it to Week 12. ESPN's Adam Schefter added that Kendricks will first be eligible to play in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to federal insider trading charges in September and is set to be sentenced in January.

Kendricks was released by the Cleveland Browns in August after the charges were announced and later signed with the Seahawks. He's appeared in three games for Seattle this season, racking up 15 tackles and two sacks.
