Lions trade Golden Tate to Eagles for 3rd-round pick

The Detroit Lions have traded wide receiver Golden Tate to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2019 third-round pick, the teams announced Tuesday.

The veteran pass-catcher quickly responded to the move on Twitter.

The arrival of the versatile Tate, who can play outside and in the slot equally effectively, bolsters a receiving group that also includes Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor.

The 30-year-old spent the last five seasons in Detroit, recording three 1,000-yard seasons. He's on pace for a fourth after catching 44 passes for 517 yards and three touchdowns in seven games this year.

While the Lions remain on the outskirts of the NFC playoff race at 3-4, Tate was set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season, making him an obvious trade candidate following the emergence of Kenny Golladay.
