The Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran quarterback Landry Jones on Wednesday, the team announced.

Starter Blake Bortles has been dealing with a left shoulder injury (his non-throwing arm) since the Jaguars' Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The injury isn't expected to sideline Bortles for Jacksonville's Week 10 game after the bye, but Jones is still reportedly being signed as insurance.

Jones was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to this season. He appeared in 19 games for Pittsburgh, throwing for a total of 1,310 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions after being drafted in 2013.

Bortles was benched in the second half of a lopsided loss to the Houston Texans in Week 7 but returned to start against the Eagles in London, England. He completed 24 of 41 pass attempts for 286 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions in that appearance, but the Jaguars lost their fourth consecutive game.

Cody Kessler is the other quarterback on the Jaguars' depth chart. He completed 21 of 30 attempts for 156 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while replacing Bortles in Week 7.
