Baker Mayfield challenged his teammates Wednesday to rise up in the face of adversity after the Cleveland Browns fired both head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

"With all the distractions, we will see what kind of men we have in this room," the rookie quarterback said, according to ESPN's Pat McManamon. "Not what kind of team that we have but what kind of men can handle a distraction the right way, can come together and focus on doing their job and doing it at a high level against a great team come Sunday."

The Browns, losers of three straight games, are gearing up to face the 7-1 Kansas City Chiefs. They'll be led into action by interim head coach Gregg Williams, who had been operating as the defensive coordinator under Jackson.

"For me, it is definitely something new," Mayfield said of the coaching changes. "It caught me off guard, but (we) have to roll with the punches. Whatever happens, happens. We have to stick together as a team. We have to use this as something to make us come together. Obviously, it could be a huge distraction or it could be something that could bring this locker room even closer."

Mayfield was dynamite in his Week 3 debut, leading the Browns to their first victory in 635 days, but his play has since tapered off. He was held to a season-low 180 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, and has eight touchdown passes against six interceptions for the season.
