Mayfield: Mahomes should've been No. 1 pick in 2017 instead of Garrett

The Cleveland Browns' decision to draft pass-rusher Myles Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft instead of a quarterback meant the franchise was free to select Baker Mayfield in the same slot the following year.
However, the rookie passer believes that when his team decided to take Garrett over a certain young quarterback lighting up the league in Kansas City, the front office made the wrong call.
"I love Myles Garrett, but ..." said a smiling Mayfield on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Pat McManamon.
"Talentwise, I thought (Patrick Mahomes) should have been."
Mayfield and Mahomes, who were briefly teammates at Texas Tech before the former transferred to Oklahoma, will face off Sunday when the Chiefs travel to Cleveland.
The Browns' first-year pivot knows how hard it is to keep a Mahomes-led team down. Mayfield's Sooners came out on top over Texas Tech in a 66-59 shootout in 2016, and incredibly, Mahomes threw for 734 yards and five touchdowns. His passing yardage tied the all-time single-game NCAA record.
"He does stuff that you can't even think of it actually being possible," said Mayfield, who finished with 545 yards and seven scores during that offensive explosion against Mahomes' Red Raiders.
"There was a play in that college game, he was rolling to his left, flicked it and it went about 65 in the air for a touchdown," Mayfield added.
