Darnold: I played 'stupid football' in loss to Dolphins
New York Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold has struggled badly during his team's three-game losing streak, and it appears he's his own toughest critic.
After throwing four interceptions and no touchdowns during the latest defeat - a 13-6 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 9 on Sunday - Darnold took full responsibility.
"It's just not playing to the best of my ability and quite frankly just playing stupid. I thought I played stupid football yesterday. I just (got) to be better. I know that. Coaches know it. Everyone knows it," Darnold said Monday to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
Through nine games this season, the 21-year-old quarterback leads the NFL with 14 interceptions and has completed 55 percent of his pass attempts for 1,934 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Darnold and the 3-6 Jets will look to right the ship at home against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10.
