Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup took the field for Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game against the Washington Redskins just five days after he learned of the death of his brother, Andrew.

Gallup, who finished the contest with two catches for 19 yards, received the game ball for his efforts, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.

"To go through the tragedy that he did a couple of days ago and be able to turn around and get back here and get ready and come back in time to prepare and get ready for this game, it just shows the character of him," quarterback Dak Prescott said. "It shows the man he is. He battles adversity. I'm just so proud of him and proud of the way he handled this. I don't wish this on anybody, obviously. He is playing for his brother. He is living for his brother. That's what's most important."

Gallup learned of his brother's passing following last week's win over the Atlanta Falcons. He remained with his family until Tuesday, when he returned to Texas via owner Jerry Jones' private plane.

The 22-year-old will head back to Georgia on Friday for the funeral.
