NFL expands Rooney Rule requirements
by Esten McLaren from on (#44VTF)
The NFL announced Wednesday that it's updated the Rooney Rule, the policy requiring teams to interview at least one candidate from an ethnic minority for head coaching jobs and roles in senior football operations.
Clubs now have to interview a minority candidate on the list from the league's career development advisory panel, or someone who isn't already employed by the organization, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The policy, established in 2003, does not apply to coordinators or assistant coaches. There are currently seven minority head coaches in the NFL.
