Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was diagnosed with a fractured vertebra in his back after undergoing a CT scan, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Wentz isn't expected to require surgery, as the injury should heal with rest, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Wentz reportedly battled an ailing back for weeks, yet previous CT scans never revealed a fracture.

The Eagles are evaluating whether Wentz would be at risk of worsening the injury by playing through it, according to Schefter.

The 25-year-old isn't expected to be available Sunday when the Eagles take on the Los Angeles Rams in a vital game for Philadelphia's playoff chances.

Wentz has thrown for 3,074 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 11 outings this year. He missed the first two weeks of the season while recovering from the knee injury that sidelined him in 2017.
