The Los Angeles Rams will hold out star running back Todd Gurley for their regular-season finale versus the San Francisco 49ers, according to Myles Simmons of the Rams' official site.

It will be Gurley's second consecutive absence due to a knee injury.

The NFL's second-leading rusher hasn't practiced since playing in Week 15 as he's been dealing with inflammation in his knee. Gurley revealed Thursday that he initially picked up the injury in the first week of the season.

The 24-year-old has 1,251 rushing yards and 21 total touchdowns on the season, but he's been quiet his last two times on the field. He rushed 11 times for 28 yards in a Week 14 loss to the Chicago Bears and took 12 carries for 48 yards in the Week 15 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles.

C.J. Anderson filled in admirably for Gurley last week, rushing 20 times for 167 yards and a touchdown in a 31-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

The Rams already have a playoff spot and the NFC West title wrapped up. They can clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs with a win over the 49ers or a loss by the Chicago Bears against the Minnesota Vikings.
