Report: Mariota not expected to play vs. Colts, Gabbert to start
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is not expected to play in Sunday night's win-and-you're-in game against the Indianapolis Colts due to the stinger he suffered last week, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
The Titans were warned by an independent spine specialist that further damage could impact Mariota's long-term ability to throw the football, Mortensen added.
Blaine Gabbert will get the start and Austin Davis will serve as the No. 2 QB. Gabbert played in relief of Mariota in last week's win over the Washington Redskins, throwing for 101 yards and a game-winning touchdown.
Tennessee is reportedly hopeful the added rest will allow Mariota to play in the postseason if it punches its ticket with a win over the Colts.
