Report: Packers to hire Titans OC LaFleur as new head coach

The Green Bay Packers are set to hire Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur as their new head coach, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Rob Demovsky.

The 39-year-old has just two seasons of NFL coordinator experience, one with Tennessee and one with Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams in 2017.

The Rams were one of the top offenses under LaFleur, ranking first in points per game with 29.9 and 10th in total yards, though McVay was the offensive play-caller.

LaFleur struggled to replicate Los Angeles' elite production in Tennessee as the Titans finished 27th in points per game, 25th in yards per game, and 15th in third-down percentage.

If the deal is finalized, LaFleur will be tasked with revamping the Packers' stagnant offense in order to maximize Aaron Rodgers' final seasons.

The two-time NFL MVP threw the fewest touchdowns and had his worst completion-percentage mark for a full 16-game regular season in 2018. He reportedly clashed with longtime head coach Mike McCarthy about the team's offensive scheme. McCarthy was ultimately fired midseason.
