NFL teams are building language into the contracts of their recently hired head coaches that suggests a work stoppage could be coming in 2021, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The installed clauses stipulate how much salary the respective coaches would lose if the 2021 season is disrupted. The amount of forfeited money would be based on the percentage of the season that is lost due to a stoppage.

The NFL experienced a work stoppage 2011 that lasted through much of the summer, but NFL owners and players agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement before the start of the regular season. The current CBA will expire after the 2020 campaign.
