The New York Jets held an introductory press conference for head coach Adam Gase on Monday and the new hire made an immediate impact on those in attendance and watching from afar.

Gase appeared distracted at times as he leaned back in his chair and glanced around the room when he wasn't speaking.

Awkward facial expressions aside, Gase may have endeared himself to Jets fans, by offering a vote of confidence for rookie quarterback Sam Darnold moving forward.

"It's gonna start with him. That's an obvious statement. I'm excited. This is the first time I've been able to get with a guy this young, this early in his career," Gase said, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.

The Miami Dolphins went 23-25 under Gase from 2016-18, finishing second in the AFC East and qualifying for the wild-card round in his first season. The team again finished second in 2018 but missed the postseason with a 7-9 record.

"We sacrificed statistics to try to get wins," he said, per SNY.

The Dolphins finished the regular season as the league's seventh-lowest-scoring club while allowing more points per game than all but five teams.

CEO and chairman Christopher Johnson defended the hire amid Twitter's scrutiny.

The hire seems to be providing some entertainment value, at least.

Have no idea if Adam Gase is going to be any good here.... but I *do* know that #JetsTwitter is going to keep me thoroughly entertained for the next 2-3yrs https://t.co/V2HJrqzFvr
