Sean Payton: Taysom Hill runs 'a little bit like Fred Flintstone'
Taysom Hill may be the New Orleans Saints' most versatile player, and head coach Sean Payton highlighted one of his attributes on Thursday, saying the backup quarterback's running style makes him look like a certain 1960s cartoon character.
"Outstanding. Outstanding. Really good," Payton said of Hill's hands, according to Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams. "He runs fast, but a little bit like Fred Flintstone. His arms don't bend."
Payton also praised Hill's quarterback play in a more traditional sense.
"He's going to be, I think, an outstanding NFL quarterback," he said. "Last week, he threw a ball to (Alvin) Kamara that was perfect."
Hill's 46-yard touchdown pass to Kamara was called off due to a holding penalty. He finished the divisional-round win over the Philadelphia Eagles with two carries for eight yards, which included turning a fake punt into a crucial 4th-and-1 conversion. That kept the drive going, and the Saints eventually scored a touchdown.
The 28-year-old played 37 snaps against the Eagles, according to Pro Football Focus. Offensively, he lined up everywhere from quarterback to the slot as a receiver, and on special teams Hill was used on kick and punt return coverage, and to block extra-point attempts.
As for running like Fred Flintstone, we'll let you be the judge of that:
Taysom Hill is the @saints' QB3...

But he can also return kicks! "
