The Dallas Cowboys are not expected to extend head coach Jason Garrett's contract this offseason, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Garrett will now enter the final year of his contract in 2019.

The news contrasts with earlier reports stating the Cowboys intended to negotiate a long-term contract extension with their head coach following the team's playoff run, a deal that was expected to be lucrative.

Seemingly on the hot seat early in the 2018 season, Garrett led Dallas to its second NFC East crown in three years before being ousted by the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round.

The 52-year-old is the NFL's fifth-longest tenured head coach, accumulating a 77-59 regular-season record across nine campaigns.
