Report: Patriots to name Greg Schiano new DC
The New England Patriots will name Greg Schiano as their new defensive coordinator Wednesday, a source told Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.
Schiano spent the last three seasons as Ohio State's defensive coordinator and left the Buckeyes in January following Urban Meyer's retirement.
The 52-year-old replaces Brian Flores as Bill Belichick's right-hand man on defense. Flores was officially hired as head coach of the Miami Dolphins on Monday.
Schiano will be New England's third defensive coordinator in three seasons after Matt Patricia left for the Detroit Lions following the 2017 campaign.
The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach is best known for his 11-year run at Rutgers from 2001-11. He coached the Bucs from 2012-13.
Schiano is the first external candidate hired by Belichick into a coordinator position since Romeo Crennel in 2001.
