The knee injury that sidelined Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley late in the regular season may have been more serious than both parties let on.

"He was more hurt than what we thought," C.J. Anderson said Tuesday on FS1's "Undisputed." "The injury was a little bit more than what everybody in the building thought, including himself."

Anderson signed with Los Angeles in Week 15 and filled in for an injured Gurley over the next two weeks.

Gurley returned for the postseason but received fewer carries than Anderson the rest of the way. The 24-year-old All-Pro had been one of the most used offensive players in the league prior to his two-week absence.

Both Gurley and Rams head coach Sean McVay maintained throughout the playoffs and after the Super Bowl that the star rusher was healthy.

"He'd never really tell me," Anderson said of Gurley and the mysterious injury. "It was tough. I would say sprained knee. Obviously, it's the same knee injury he's had before in his career. Obviously I had surgery on my meniscus and once you have a knee, you always have a knee. So it aggravates and if he was getting a lot of touches earlier in the year - obviously him being one of the best running backs, that probably was the case."
