Bruno Uggenti says there are still "a good number of Liberals" left to turn the Hamilton Mountain riding red despite the scandal involving SNC-Lavalin that is rocking the federal party in Ottawa. "Liberal policies have benefited Canadians," said Uggenti after he won the party's nomination on Wednesday over Liberal organizer Shubha Sandhil and teacher Anthony Macaluso. "Those people will remember what those Liberal policies have done for them." Meanwhile, Uggenti told the 50 people left in the room after the vote at Michelangelo's Banquet Centre that it was time to unite the party and add Hamilton Mountain to Hamilton West-Ancaster-Dundas and Hamilton East-Stoney Creek ridings that are represented by Liberal MPs. "I'm excited about the upcoming campaign and the election," said Uggenti after the results were announced. "I want to make sure there is a Liberal seat and voice in Ottawa that is reflective of our community." Hamilton Mountain was represented by Liberal MP Beth Phinney for 18 years from 1988 to 2006. Since 2006 it has been an NDP stronghold with Chris Charlton taking over in 2006 and former Ward 7 Coun. Scott Duvall continuing the NDP dominance in 2015. This is Uggenti's second venture into federal politics. He lost the Hamilton Mountain federal nomination meeting in 2015 to Shaun Burt. Uggenti is known for successfully taking the City of Hamilton to court after he was injured tobogganing, receiving about $900,000. Uggenti will challenge incumbent Duvall. The Conservative candidate is former Hamilton Tiger-Cat Peter Dyakowski.
