Former New York Jets quarterback Christian Hackenberg was benched Saturday against the Orlando Apollos for the second time in three AAF games.

Hackenberg completed 8 of 14 pass attempts for 88 yards and two interceptions before receiving the hook at halftime. He was making his third consecutive start for the Memphis Express.

The 24-year-old was replaced by Zach Mettenberger, another ex-NFLer, as the Express tried to dig themselves out of a 9-0 hole.

Mettenberger threw a touchdown on his third pass attempt in relief of the Penn State product.

Hackenberg, a second-round pick of the Jets in 2016, was also benched late in the first game of the season.

Despite being a relatively high draft pick, Hackenberg never threw a pass in the NFL. He spent time with the Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, and Cincinnati Bengals after his tenure in New York.

He joined the AAF in an attempt to revive his career.
