The Washington Redskins are set to make a massive free-agent splash, agreeing Monday to a six-year, $84-million deal with former New York Giants safety Landon Collins, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Collins' contract reportedly includes $45 million guaranteed, paid out over the first three years. It would make the three-time Pro Bowler the highest-paid safety in the NFL.

The 25-year-old was a surprising addition to the free agent pool after the Giants elected not to franchise-tag him. New York also never offered him a long-term deal.

Collins established himself as one of the hardest-hitting safeties in the league and was a tackling machine during his four years in the Big Apple.

Collins' career stats:

He finished the 2018 season on injured reserve after undergoing shoulder surgery to repair a partially torn labrum.

Washington struggled with its tackling in the secondary last year, despite the acquisition of safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix at the trade deadline. Clinton-Dix, a free agent, is unlikely to return given the impending signing of Collins.

The addition of Collins can't be made official until Wednesday, the first day of the new league year.
