The Jacksonville Jaguars paid top dollar to answer their questions at quarterback.

Jacksonville officially announced on Wednesday the free-agent signing of former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles to a four-year, $88-million contract with $50 million in guarantees. While some have questioned whether the Jaguars were the only bidder at the table for Foles' services, head coach Doug Marrone highlighted the significance of bringing aboard a proven winner.

"When you make moves like that at the quarterback position, it gives the team a chance," Marrone said Wednesday, according to Jaguars.com's John Oehser. "You have someone that has the experience, someone that has leadership, someone that really has proven to some extent that he has done it on the big stage and can handle that."

Foles takes over the starting quarterback role from Blake Bortles, who was released Wednesday evening.

Although Foles is a 30-year-old quarterback on the back half of his career, it seems the Jaguars have no qualms about handing him the keys to the franchise.

"We really think his best days are ahead of him," Marrone said. "He's really played well of late and we're excited to have him (be) part of our team."
