The Houston Texans have signed former Carolina Panthers left tackle Matt Kalil to a one-year contract, the Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports.

Kalil was cut by the Panthers on March 14 just two seasons into a five-year, $55-million deal he inked in March 2017. He didn't play in 2018 after undergoing knee surgery before the season.

Houston's offensive line surrendered 62 sacks of quarterback Deshaun Watson last year. No quarterback was sacked more than Watson.

Kalil entered the league as the fourth overall pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2012. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie but his play has slipped in subsequent seasons.
