Tony Romo is seeking a contract extension from CBS Sports that would pay him $10 million annually, sources told Michael McCarthy of Sporting News.

His current deal - a three-year, $12-million pact - expires after the 2019 season. Romo has spent the last two years as an analyst alongside Jim Nantz on CBS' top NFL commentary team.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback has drawn excellent reviews since moving to the booth, earning widespread praise for his enthusiasm and ability to predict plays.

Without the extension, Romo could let his contract expire and test broadcasting free agency. He also reportedly could consider quitting his new career altogether to devote more time to his family and growing business interests.

No sports TV analyst has ever held an eight-figure salary. Troy Aikman currently makes about $7.5 million from FOX Sports, while Jon Gruden earned $6.5 million per year from ESPN while broadcasting on Monday Night Football.
