The Detroit Lions and former Los Angeles Rams running back C.J. Anderson have agreed to a one-year contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Anderson will join a backfield that features rising sophomore Kerryon Johnson.

Anderson resurrected his career after the Rams signed him late last season, becoming a highly effective backup behind Todd Gurley. He rushed for 488 yards and four touchdowns over five games (postseason included).

The 28-year-old was expected to be a hot commodity this offseason, but he struggled to generate interest early in free agency.

The Lions tried to sign Malcolm Brown, Gurley's other backup, but the Rams matched their offer sheet for the restricted free agent.

Anderson enjoyed his most productive season in 2017, producing 1,007 rushing yards and three touchdowns for the Denver Broncos.
