Report: Hill temporarily loses custody of son after abuse allegations
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill and his fiancee, Crystal Espinal, have temporarily lost custody of their 3-year-old son amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of child abuse, sources told KCTV5's Angie Ricono and Emily Sinovic.
Hill's child was reportedly placed in another home in early April, pending further court action.
Authorities are investigating an alleged incidence of battery that occurred at the couple's home March 14 and involved a juvenile. Police also looked into a child abuse/neglect allegation from March 5 but declined to press charges.
Hill's name was listed in the March 5 police report but not in the March 14 report. Espinal is the only person besides the juvenile listed in the latter. Neither Hill nor Espinal has been charged with a crime.
Hill's attorney declined to comment before Hill's April 5 appearance in family court, which sources told KCTV5 was an emergency hearing. Hill was back in court Wednesday and did not respond to questions from KCTV5. He entered hand in hand with Espinal, who is pregnant with twins.
The NFL asked for police records concerning the first investigation on March 12, according to a letter sent to the Overland Park Police Department that was obtained by the Kansas City Star's Kaitlyn Schwers and Brooke Pryor.
The letter requested "all reports" regarding the situation and explained the league is evaluating any possible violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy. The league received a portion of the March 5 report, according to the Kansas City Star, but the police department told the NFL that the full report cannot be released without a court order because it concerns a child in need of care.
Hill, 25, pleaded guilty to domestic battery after a 2014 incident in which he choked and punched Espinal, who was eight weeks pregnant with their son at the time.
