Report: Belichick to call Patriots' defensive plays
The New England Patriots are still without a defensive coordinator and may remain without one for the upcoming season.
Instead, head coach Bill Belichick will call the defensive plays for the 2019 season, a league source told Ben Volin of The Boston Globe.
After Matt Patricia left his six-year post following the 2017 season, Brian Flores was the de facto defensive coordinator in 2018. But Flores has since taken a job as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
The Patriots initially hired Greg Schiano to take over the defense, but he abruptly resigned in March to spend more time with his family.
Belichick wears many hats for the Patriots, also serving as the team's de facto general manager.
