The New York Jets could target Peyton Manning for a key front-office position following the firing of general manager Mike Maccagnan, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Florio reports that "rumors are flying within league circles" about Jets head coach and interim GM Adam Gase looking to reunite with Manning, who he coached from 2013 to 2014 as the Denver Broncos' offensive coordinator.

Last month, the future Hall of Fame quarterback reportedly again turned down the chance to join ESPN's Monday Night Football booth. Networks have been hotly pursuing Manning since his retirement, but he's kept his options open, and ventures into team ownership and politics have also been rumored as post-football possibilities.

Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas and NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah are reportedly two of the top candidates for the Jets' top executive role.

New York fired Maccagnan after four seasons and handed over temporary power to Gase, who the team hired this offseason after the Miami Dolphins dismissed him.
