Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams skipped the first day of the team's mandatory minicamp Tuesday in hopes of receiving a new contract, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Williams signed a five-year, $68-million deal in 2015, which included $41.25 million guaranteed. At the time, the contract made him the highest-paid offensive tackle in the history of the NFL.

The 31-year-old's average annual value of $13.2 million now ranks ninth at the position, and he's scheduled to earn roughly $12 million in 2019.

Williams has been one of the premier offensive lineman of the decade but battled injuries last year. He missed three games with a dislocated thumb and suffered through bruised ribs later in the season.
