Voter turnout in Canada's federal elections has always been highly variable

In the early days the reporting was inconsistent, some riding elected multiple MPs and for a while Prince Edward Island didn't prepare voters lists at all. And while this makes true apples-to-apples comparisons difficult, Elections Canada has done its best to estimate the total voter turnout in each of Canada's 43 elections.
