The 36-year-old played in a career-high 33 games this season for the Carolina Hurricanes after being waived by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the start of the campaign.

McElhinney was sensational for the Hurricanes during the playoffs, posting a .930 save percentage and a 2.01 goals-against average in five games.
