Bruschi: 'I'm doing much better' after stroke

Former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi posted an update Monday morning on Instagram to notify fans that he's "doing much better" since suffering a stroke on Thursday.

"We immediately knew what was happening," Bruschi said. "These are stroke warning signs. We called 911 and an ambulance got me to the hospital. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers."

Around 10:30am on July 4th I lost use of my left arm. I then tried to speak and realized I was slurring my speech. As I turned to my wife she noticed the left side of my face was drooping. We immediately knew what was happening. These are stroke warning signs. We called 911 and an ambulance got me to the hospital. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers. TM1/4 I'm doing much better.

The 46-year-old previously suffered a stroke in 2005, only 10 days after New England's Super Bowl XXXIX victory. He recovered and returned to play for three more seasons before retiring in 2009.

Bruschi is the Patriots' all-time leader in forced fumbles (17) and is second in tackles (675). He earned a Pro Bowl designation in 2004.

The three-time Super Bowl champion is now an analyst for ESPN. He joined the network after his retirement.
