With last season's trade request behind him, Patrick Peterson is focused on trying to finish his career with the Arizona Cardinals.

"I would love to be a Cardinal for life," the star cornerback said Friday on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "But things happen. Hell, something can change next month. Things happen, not only in football but in the world in general. So, I would love to be a Cardinal for life. I would love to be one of those guys to bring that organization its first championship."

Peterson has spent his first eight seasons in the desert, earning a Pro Bowl selection at the end of each year. The 29-year-old asked out of Arizona last season when the Cardinals were in the middle of a league-worst 3-13 campaign.

He later retracted his request.

"I was just frustrated," he said. "I love Arizona, I definitely want to be there. Just that time of the year, last year, like I said, it was just very, very tough to deal with.

" ... People upstairs can trade players and try to shop players around whenever they need to, so I didn't see what was wrong with me asking for a trade at the time."

Trade winds swirled again in April following a report that Peterson was irate with a member of Cardinals management. A six-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs squashed whatever value he would have had, however.

"Right now I'm in a very, very happy place with the team," he said.

Peterson has two years left on his contract.
